JUNIOR & SENIOR WING

The Shemford System of Education values the child as a strong, capable and resilient individual, rich with wonder and knowledge. Every child brings with him deep curiosity and potential and this innate curiosity drives his interest to understand the world and his place within it. Our curriculum allows the child to reflect, solve, create, grow and most importantly, think. The core elements of the curriculum are as follows:

Problem Solving Skills:- All subjects are dealt with using scientific approach of inquiry based learning that involves engaging visuals and presentation formats, and well-crafted activities to arouse the learner’s curiosity. It taps into the procedural, manipulative, observational, drawing, reporting and interpretive skills of the learners, hence enabling them to better grasp the key concepts.

Inquiry Approach:- All subjects are dealt with using scientific approach of inquiry based learning that involves engaging visuals and presentation formats, and well-crafted activities to arouse the learner’s curiosity. It taps into the procedural, manipulative, observational, drawing, reporting and interpretive skills of the learners, hence enabling them to better grasp the key concepts.

Core Thinking Skills:- Profound thinking skills require both imagination and intellectual ideas. To produce excellence in thinking we engage our learners in a curriculum that overlaps the logical and the imaginative. Our curriculum provides students with ample opportunities to practise higher order thinking. Apart from this we at shemford believe in creating leaders for life. While academic excellence is emphasised at every level, the focus is placed on universal values, ethics, discipline, creativity and personality development in the initial years, before shifting to academic achievement, leadership and entrepreneurial skills, and key competencies for vocational and career progression during the secondary and high school years.

Personality Development:- The importance of personality development during a student's early years cannot be understated. We are focused on cultivating various aspects of student development through a variety of well-designed programmes like critical thinking, sports, social contribution, self-expression and meditation. All these are stepping stones to a well-rounded personality of a student, and we put these foundations in place through our various programmes, initiatives and events.

Entrepreneurship & Leadership:- Our programmes and events revolve around concepts of entrepreneurship and leadership among school children to help develop their skills. We invite experts and conduct bootcamps to give exposure in these concepts to our students. Interactive conversations and participation in these activities help students grow in confidence and speak passionately and authoritatively on subjects of their interest.

Universal Values and Ethics:- Our emphasis is not just academic excellence, but we also nurture our students emotionally and spiritually. Through specific elements like peace included in our curriculum and encouraging activities like yoga, we teach students to imbibe good values to build character and treat everyone with respect.

Community and Care: Through a comprehensive programme, we give our students a chance to be out and about in the community and have social interactions which will help them bond with society at large. Charity drives, community event participation, green initiatives and conservation of resources are some of the methods we encourage among students to develop their emotional and spiritual well-being.

Life Skills: As a school we place importance on children developing the skills they need to succeed in life along with all children achieveing their potential accademically. Along with the subject based curriculum each year group has a life skill curriculum which allows them the opportutniy to develop and support the learning of these valuable skills. Whether it be learning to use a knife and fork or tying shoe laces, or learing to sew on a button or making a cup of tea the children will be given the opportunity to develop these life long skills.

SHEMFORD INNOVATION CENTER - THEMATIC LEARNING PROGRAM

The Theme Based Approach is a way of teaching and learning, whereby many areas of the curriculum are connected together and integrated within a theme. The activities and lessons focus on providing students with relevant, meaningful interactive, hands-on experiences. It is also important that the lesson plans and activities be related to real-life experiences. The thematic units give a coordinated way to deal with educating and learning. Children are able to relate to real-world experiences and build on prior knowledge of a topic. Thematic units also help teachers by paving a way to facilitating learning for each child who has his/her own way of learning things. A thematic way to deal with instructing includes incorporating every single branch of knowledge together under one subject. Themes help us to weave the design that brings in the structure to the whole of our approach. They intertwine the different methodologies which make the learning experience meaningful for the child. Through the theme, children get to understand their own unique strengths, explore multiple ways of learning and also use the skills that they have been acquiring. Through skilful planning the curriculum integrates into a framework that helps children to be introduced to life skills, academic skills, understanding one’s own unique skills, critical thinking and ample of opportunities are provided for children to learn social, cognitive, emotional and physical development which are recognized as equally valuable assets which are reflected in our curriculum. We believe that innovative thinking and creative outputs have no age limit, which is why we encourage these skills in our students. This gem is structured to nurture creativity and innovation in students by mapping their interest areas, identifying their competencies and facilitating their growth. It encourages students to explore and embrace creative, multi-faceted strategies when problem solving.
